Welcome to the official website of the Grand Lodge of Moldova, the sole regular and sovereign Masonic authority in the Republic of Moldova, officially recognised by the United Grand Lodge of England, which is the mother lodge from which all Grand Lodges worldwide originate. The Grand Lodge of Moldova maintains fraternal relations with approximately 150 Regular Grand Lodges globally and stands as a highly regarded member of the universal Masonic fellowship, which presently unites more than 6 million individuals worldwide. Whilst the Masonic light was reignited in Moldova in 1997, through the Regular Grand Lodge of Italy, our Masonic heritage spans over two centuries.

Freemasonry has captivated and intrigued individuals across the globe for more than three centuries, establishing itself as the world’s oldest and most extensive non-religious, non-political, and philanthropic organisation. It represents an ancient and venerated initiatory Order, steeped in tradition and symbolism, founded upon faith in God, referred to as the Great Architect of the Universe. Freemasonry’s core mission centres on personal development, which involves turning a good man into a better man. The craft strives for the moral and spiritual enhancement of both its members and humanity at large. The cornerstone principles of Freemasonry encompass fraternal love, mutual support, and an unwavering pursuit of Truth. The golden tenet of Freemasonry states: “Know thyself, love thy neighbour, help him, whilst honouring his dignity”. Freemasonry fights for human rights, respect for national laws and traditions, whilst actively opposing ignorance, violence, warfare, aggression, corruption, and dishonesty among people and nations.

Freemasonry represents an initiatory journey rooted in the customs and regulations of medieval cathedral builders (stonemasons’ guilds). However, contemporary Freemasons no longer build stone temples, rather focus on building their inner spiritual temples. The ancient origins of Freemasonry are evidenced through various elements: the craft communicates through symbols and allegories, maintaining connections with ancient mystical teachings, preserved rituals, and centuries-old traditions. Traditional Masonic initiation guides individuals on an internal journey towards life’s profound mysteries. An initiate traverses a path within a genuine and warm brotherhood, humbly seeking harmony, inner unity, and Truth.

Freemasonry neither constitutes a religion nor functions as a political organisation. Moreover, brothers are required to abstain from political or religious discussions during lodge proceedings, preventing potential discord over sensitive matters that might undermine the brotherly harmony.

Freemasonry is not a clandestine organisation; its honourable objectives are well-known to the public. The Grand Lodge of Moldova was established and functions in full compliance with Moldovan legislation and the Grand Lodge’s Statute is officially registered with the domestic competent authorities. The presence of the Regular Freemasonry in our country stands as a luminous symbol of democratic values and reflects the maturation of our civil society.

Whilst our assemblies, similar to many other institutions, are exclusively accessible to members, our fraternity welcomes any interested gentleman who aspires, through self-improvement, to cultivate personal accountability, brotherly spirit and tolerance, ultimately contributing to a more humane and equitable society. Admission to the Order is available to any free man of upright character who upholds the law, has earned society’s respect through diligence, perseverance and honour, maintains an unwavering faith in God and the soul’s immortality, and demonstrates profound devotion to both homeland and family, even to the extent of ultimate sacrifice.
